Program overview

Can Support at Home be used for allied health?

Yes. The Australian Government Support at Home service list includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy and exercise physiology within allied health and therapy.

A listed service is not automatically approved for every person. Before an appointment is funded, the registered provider must confirm that the service is in the support plan, funding is available, the service and price are authorised, any travel or reporting charges are agreed, and the invoice pathway is in place.

Care where life happens

Mobile allied health that fits everyday life.

A home visit helps the clinician understand the environment in which a person moves, completes daily activities and pursues their goals. It can also improve access when transport, fatigue, mobility or confidence makes clinic attendance difficult.

Depending on needs and provider approval, care may involve one discipline or coordinated input from the team. Meet the Healthroos team or check Greater Sydney coverage.

Who we work with

Coordinated around the older person.

Older people and families

We take time to understand what matters, where support is needed and who should be involved. Family, carers or authorised representatives can participate with consent.

Registered providers and care partners

We can discuss scope, frequency, pricing, documentation and invoice requirements before care starts. Relevant updates are shared within the older person’s consent.

GPs, hospitals and community clinicians

Clinicians and discharge teams can discuss a referral. The registered Support at Home provider must authorise funded services and invoice arrangements before care begins.

Referral pathway

How a Support at Home referral works.

01

Check approval

The person should have an aged care assessment, Support at Home support plan and approved service. If not assessed, apply through My Aged Care or call 1800 200 422.

02

Send the referral

The person, family, clinician, registered provider or care partner can contact Healthroos with consent, service, goals, location and provider details.

03

Confirm scope

Healthroos and the registered provider confirm clinician availability, price, travel or reporting charges, budget authorisation and invoice pathway.

04

Arrange the first visit

After authorisation, we contact the person or representative to arrange a suitable appointment. Timing depends on needs, location, language and availability.

05

Deliver and communicate

The clinician assesses needs and agrees a therapy plan. With consent, updates and documentation follow the agreed provider pathway.

Funded therapy does not commence until scope, price, authorisation and invoice details are agreed.

Funding and invoices

Confirm the arrangement before therapy starts.

Support at Home began on 1 November 2025. An aged care assessment determines eligibility and approved ongoing or short-term services. The person’s registered provider is responsible for the service agreement, care management and oversight.

Where Healthroos fits

When the registered provider approves Healthroos to deliver allied health, we coordinate service and invoice requirements with that provider. Approval, available funding, full price, travel and reporting charges must be confirmed before therapy begins. Clinical-support services have a 0% participant contribution under Support at Home, while support-plan approval and available budget still apply.

Healthroos does not manage the person’s Support at Home budget and does not determine program eligibility.

Transition information

From Home Care Packages to Support at Home.

Support at Home replaced the Home Care Packages Program and Short-Term Restorative Care Programme on 1 November 2025. Existing Home Care Package recipients transitioned under program rules, while people approved but waiting moved into the Support at Home Priority System.

Individual budgets, retained unspent funds and contribution arrangements vary. A previous Home Care Package arrangement does not by itself guarantee that a particular Healthroos service, schedule or invoice will continue. Confirm the person’s current arrangement with their registered provider.

Questions

Support at Home FAQs.

Is Support at Home the same as a Home Care Package?

No. Support at Home replaced the Home Care Packages Program on 1 November 2025. Individual budgets, service agreements and contribution arrangements are now managed under Support at Home rules.

Can Support at Home be used for physiotherapy, OT or exercise physiology?

These disciplines appear on the Support at Home service list under allied health and therapy. The service must still be in the support plan, have available funding and be authorised by the registered provider.

Does Healthroos manage my Support at Home budget?

No. The registered Support at Home provider manages the service agreement, care management and budget. Healthroos coordinates with that provider when delivering approved allied health.

Will I pay a contribution for allied health?

For approved services classified as clinical supports—such as physiotherapy—the participant contribution rate is 0%. The registered provider must still confirm the service category, support-plan approval, available budget, full price, travel and reporting requirements before therapy begins.

Can I contact Healthroos myself?

Yes. An older person, family member or clinician can contact us to discuss needs and availability. Support at Home billing cannot begin until the registered provider authorises the service and invoice pathway.

How are invoices handled?

Before therapy starts, Healthroos confirms the invoice recipient, approved price, billing details and any purchase-order or reporting requirements with the registered provider.

What if I have not had an aged care assessment?

Apply through My Aged Care or call 1800 200 422. Healthroos does not determine eligibility or allocate Support at Home funding.

Which languages are available?

Services may be available in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Farsi and Korean. Matching depends on discipline, location and clinician availability.
